Impossibly lovely though she is, my new character doesn't really look like this young lady |
I won't rework Chapter 5 now, because that way lies madness, so it's time to get excited about introducing a new character in Chapter 6. I (probably) won't post an in-depth fanfare for all new characters, but this one in particular will hopefully show a bit more about what sort of book I'm writing.
She's also interesting because I know exactly what she looks like. Read on? Read on.
Hayley will be the first 'honoured guest' that our hero actually meets. The first few chapters are pretty much him and the main dominant female character getting everything set up and struggling through one or two issues they have. In Chapter 5 we met another male character with some SPOILERS who drops a few hints around and generally shows our main character that it can be SPOILER to do the whole SPOILER thing. There are still one or two issues hanging around, and the main female character is SPOILER SPOILER and will probably SPOILER for SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. You get the idea.
Anyway, Chapter 6 introduces Hayley, who gives the first proper look at the HGS thing that my story revolves around. In short, submissive people join an organisation that arranges for young ladies to come and stay in their house over the weekend. I can't remember where I got the idea from, but it's probably something to do with my penchant for prom dresses and the phrase 'you treat this house like a hotel'. The young ladies are between 18 and 25, and they come and boss people around in their own homes. Dinner is served, rules are imposed and there is generally a lot of dressing up and behaving like a princess. It's a nice little fantasy, if that's your kind of thing.
The nub of the gist appears to be that it's the submissive's house, rather than the home of the young lady. It's quite common to see stories where the submissive is sent to clean and serve in the home of the dominant party, and that's all well and good, but if you do it the other way round it becomes a slightly different beast, one that's much more liberating for the dominant party. She is the one escaping the humdrum reality of living with her parents or not being able to afford a nice place of her own, and she can basically arrive on Friday nights, live in the princess fantasy for a couple of days then get back to normal. The submissive has no escape at the end of it, and it's an extra humiliation to give up control of your own living space, albeit temporarily, to someone who will treat it like their own and then leave you there at the end of it. It's a slightly weird fantasy, but it's one that I've developed over the past few years, and it floated to the top of list when I started thinking about writing.
So yes, character thumbnail sketch: Hayley is about 20, last year of University, and has had 2 years' experience of staying in submissives' houses through the HGS. Average height, curly fair hair, glasses and around a size 16. Considered by the main female character as a good choice to introduce our hero to the realities of serving a guest in his house. And, like I said, I've always known exactly what she looks like. Here is a mood-board for you:
This is the right sort of mood, ie lovely | I'm looking mostly at the one in the middle, because of the weird thing: |
Normal looking person, nicely dressed... |
Right hair colour and body shape... |
Now with curly hair and glasses... |
With exactly this sort of dress... |
So yes, Hayley will turn up in Chapter 6, where the plot effectively turns for the first book in the trilogy. She'll wear a blue dress like that one on the end and generally be surprisingly lovely and gently dominant at the same time. It's important that she's a normal-looking person, but not so that she can be magically transformed into stunning gorgeousness just by taking off her glasses (and yes, there will be a joke about taking off her glasses and becoming gorgeous, my characters just can't help their sense of humour). She'll still be a normal-looking person, just one that's wearing a nice dress, and the hero will SPOILER SPOILER and and start SPOILERing, because, well:
This is my book, and I'm writing it, so obviously there's more than a little foot-worship to be had, isn't there... But not until SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER |
On an unrelated note, if you think I can keep myself from posting this last picture that I came across on my travels, then you know nothing at all about me or what makes me tick:
Literally nothing |

It all sounds quite lovely, if I may appropriate your word. Also positive. And SPOILERs, which is fine. You carry on!

Some bits are going to be less lovely. In fact, we've already had one in chapter 3, and the main bulk of book 3 is going to be mostly horrible. But yes, for the most part, this is a lovely book of loveliness, and coming to appreciate how lovely things can actually be.
